It seems that through out our history the Supreme Court has played it's intened roll with a few excemptions. The alien and sedition laws, or something lie them were used to put Japanese in camps, even though they fought for this country too. The Germans? The Italians? To many able-body fighting men to lock up. 1940 we can't over-throw the Gov by violent mean, when the Contitution clearly states this may be a necessity. The founding fathers even made different statement to this affect. And now the 2001 Patriot Act, the trade center scared the hell out of everyone, but now looking back people are find that the Gov. has been up to a lot of things they shouldn't, covered under this hasitly made legislation. Seems to me the politcian are more worried about thier jobs and thier corperate money than they are John Q. Public. There has, (maybe), been a change but I still have my eyes open and on the voting button. I pray to God our fighting men don't have to come home and find that they have to fight for the thing that the Constitution really stands for.
Freedom of speech in the USA was established from the beginning, and its vigorous defenders by their unflagging vigilance have succeeded in deterring incursions on its free exercise. I feel that it is part of our national DNA, and places where free speech is curbed or inhibited (such as some churches I have encountered) are not for me! - Les Rinehart
