MLA Style
0 comments Wednesday, February 10, 2010 Posted by AmandaI am seeing some MAJOR problems with using MLA and APA style on the outlines I've gotten so far. Now -- this is not something that you need to panic about because of POINTS (as I didn't assign any points to the outline on the first speech), but you do need to worry about it for the upcoming speech outlines as well as the two papers you will turn in to me throughout the semester. When I receive an outline that is not even close to being MLA or APA style, I usually give it a zero. It tells me that you aren't putting in the effort that you need to put in for a college course. When I receive a paper that is not even close to being MLA or APA style, I usually deduct around 10 - 15%. That's how serious I am about you needing to learn to do this!!! This is a good resource if you need to visually see how to put together your paper in MLA style.

Delivery and Speech Anxiety

The PowerPoint on Delivery can be downloaded here. You can also check out some additional tips on overcoming speech apprehension in this very thorough website. The presentation ends with an embedded YouTube video of an After-Dinner speech, which I will post below. Though it is an entertainment speech, it follows our structure very closely. There are some issues with his delivery, as we discussed in class, so be aware of those as you watch.
