Persuasive 2 is fast approaching -- below are the requirements. Notice that most elements are the same as your first Persuasive Speech. I'll bold the additional requirements for this speech. Don't forget to review the Visual Aid PowerPoint to make sure you are following my rules -- especially if you plan to use a PowerPoint.

Mass Communication

The Mass Communication PowerPoint is downloadable here.
Don't forget to keep thinking about your final paper. The end of the semester will be here before you know it!!! I've added a "Document Downloads" tab at the top of the blog for your convenience. It's the same as the "Forms of Interest" panel -- just trying to make it easier for you to navigate.
If you want to run your topic by me, just drop me an email -- I'm happy to dialogue with you to help you settle on a topic, and I can also help give you some direction on what you should be working on to end up with the best possible research project!!

Relationship Stages Intro and Quiz
0 comments Wednesday, March 10, 2010 Posted by AmandaLabels: Quizzes
U of A -- Wednesday, March 10 Crowder -- Tuesday, March 23 Today (see dates above) we will be watching an episode of a show called, "Freaks and Geeks" that has some excellent examples of how relationships grow and develop. For a run-down of how relationship development takes place, download this cheatsheet. The quiz below will be due the next class period after we watch the episode in class. That means U of A will need to have completed the quiz by Friday, March 12th, and Crowder will need to have completed the quiz by Tuesday, March 30th. For those who miss class, you will need to watch the episode in pieces on youtube: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 After you have READ THE HANDOUT and WATCHED THE VIDEO go here and complete the quiz. It will ask you to describe the relationship development you saw in the video, so it is wise to make some notes as you are watching. It is helpful if you know the characters names, so make note of those during the video. If you start the quiz and need to watch more of the video, you can always open up another browser window and check back here. The quiz is here. It is worth 10 points, and I am expecting an answer with depth. Put some thought into your answer, please!

Visual Aids

Here is the PowerPoint on Visual Aids. The most important thing to remember about doing visual aids (VA's) for speeches in this course is that I DON'T want you to do word-based PowerPoints. They need to be based on graphics, so that they are enhancing the speech. If you want to share words with your audience, it is best to do a handout.

Persuasion and Speech 3 Guidelines
0 comments Wednesday, March 03, 2010 Posted by AmandaLabels: PowerPoints
The Persuasion PowerPoint can be found here. It contains the requirements for Persuasive Speech #1. Notice that I have posted the rubric for the first persuasive speech under "Forms of Interest" on the right side toolbar. It is a good idea to check that out before giving your speech. Step up the verbal citations -- there is lots of information being shared without giving credit. The time penalty has also doubled to 10 points per minute over/under. Here is an example of Monroe's Motivated Sequence in action if you are interested.
