Internet Detective

Because our classrooms are not equipped as computer labs, I'm sending you home to complete a tutorial on responsible use of internet research. The tutorial claims it will take about an hour. It took me less time than this, but you should reserve a good amount of time for going through this website. I'll be including info from the website on the mid-term, so I recommend that you don't just blow this off. . . Click here to begin the Internet Detective Tutorial. (You'll need to scroll down and click "Next" on the first page to begin the lesson.)

I learned a lot from this tutuorial. After completing it, I believe I will be able to find the correct information for my assignments and be able to use the internet sites correctly.

Very informative I would have never thought to look much further than face value for the creditablity of a website. Guess I know better now.

I thought that a lot of the information from the tutorial was stuff that they taught us back in high school but it was a good brush up on the knowledge that I had forgot.

Not having been in school for 30 years - there was alot of information I did not know. As it was very helpful - I did get a little lost in all of it at one point. It definitely gave clarity to what is acceptable.

I thought the tutorial was very informative. I have used the internet to do ALOT of research, both personal and professional. I have never really thought about the information that I am receiving to not be creditable. I been working on my famous person speech research and now that I have been enlightened on internet research issues, I am going to go back and review the sites I used to gather information. Thank you for sharing this with us. It will help us for this class as well as future classes that we will have.

Ok while I think I knew some of the information already in how to decipher the web address and URL's I did learn the correct way to reference the works. I have been on the web since its infancy and have already encountered many of the fake pages, however now I know how to find the impostors easier so I know weather to laugh or cry.. This tutorial was rather informative. There was a ton of useful information within it. I had not ever realized how many fake sites there are out on the web until now. I already knew most of the URL information but it was a good refresher. Now I will be able to find stronger support through the use of archives.

This tutorial was pretty interesting. I felt like I already knew most of the stuff though. I was however, surprised at how easy it can be to commit plagiarism. It was good to go over everything and I'm glad to be prepared.

I found this internet tutorial quite informative. Much of the information is not difficult, you just have to know it! It strikes me as ironic that if you simply cite your sources, use primary source documents, and advanced searches, you have a marked advantage from the average writer or speaker!
