First Day

Greetings, students, and welcome to the fall semester!  Here are two small tasks that you need to complete before we really get going in here.  The following assignments are worth 5 assignment points each and they are due by next Tuesday.  Email or come by my office if you need help!

1.  Use the printed number I gave you in class to sign up on engrade.  Use an email address you check often. If you need help getting signed up, there is a "help" tab under "Gradebook" on the blog.

2.  Subscribe to the blog and/or "like" edgarcomm on facebook. Both options are on the right side toolbar of the blog.  Use an email address you check often.  Once you've clicked through the box on the blog, you'll need to click through the confirmation email you receive in order to receive credit.

Note: Liking edgarcomm on facebook does NOT allow me to see your profile, nor does it make us "friends."  It WILL post course assignments in your newsfeed.  It WON'T send you email updates -- if you want those, you should subscribe instead.

Well I took the prpsa and found out exactly everything I already knew. I scored over 140. I am not lookig forward to the speech on Monday. I had to talk in my Sociology class the other day and was so nervous I started crying. Everyone is going to think I am a HUGE baby but I really am not. I am hoping if I practice enough I will get all my crying done at home before the speech. What do you think??? Will you be suppling vomit bags also? I think I'm going to need that and a lot of tissues.

Ha! No vomit bags -- you'll do okay! Practicing DOES help, for sure, but you should also realize that everyone else is in the same situation that you are in. No one will judge you, because they all have to do the same thing, and many of them are just are nervous as you are!!!

Those who are scared -- I also recommend volunteering early in the class period. I know it's a scary thing to do, but it's also very scary to sit and watch the others in your class speak -- you will probably feel like they are much better than you are (which is all in your head!) -- so if you can get it out of the way, you'll feel much calmer and less likely to experience heart palpitations. ;)

I took my PRPSA test and my score was 164....very high. I was already aware of my anxiety level but this just seemed to bring it to prospective more. I am hoping that this class will help me learn ways to work through my anxiety.

I wasn't sure on some of the answers because I've really never gave an actually speech before. But my score was still a 107.
