Rules for Listening

This is NOT OPTIONAL!  You need to go through this Slide Show and READ AND UNDERSTAND the rules for speech day.  (There is no need to comment on the post, though you are welcome to leave a comment if you'd like.)

i personally love these rules because i have seen a lot of people talk or txt while i am talking and it usually makes me mad. just because you dont like what im talking about doesnt mean i didnt work my butt off preparing this and trying to make it interesting. i do know that not everything i talk about is going to interest everyone but at least for me people can at lest pretend to be interested.

I watched this slide show before coming to class on Monday so I watched how many people actually did these types of things while a fellow classmate's speech was going. I guess I try to use common courtesy and do not do these types of things but found it funny how many people actually did.

Stormy -- You are exactly right. I added this slideshow a few semesters ago after I realized that not everyone has the same concept of "common courtesy"! :)

I did the same thing as Stormy by watching it the day of our presentations. I totally agree with the slides also. We have enough to worry about having to give the speech in front of people we don't know let alone having to deal with others that are not courteous.

after watching the slides, I have to say I agree with everyone of them. It can be scary enough getting up in front of everyone. You don't new people being rude.

Common Sense Rules. Some people find public speaking easy and having an audience half-pay attention too them is not a big deal. Others, who really have to fight through the anxiety and have a life changing experience while speaking, may actually be emotionally hurt by not having the audience pay attention.

I would have to say that everyone of the slides is just pure common sense. And besides I like the saying do unto others as you would like to have done to you. So basically if you don't want people talking and texting or anything else while you are doing your speech then you shouldn't do it to them.

I think it would be common sence on what not to do while listening to a fellow classmate speak. I try to only do things I need to do in between the speeches as to show courtesy to fellow classmates and to think that if I was up there I wouldn't want someone being disruptive and taking away from my time up there.

I think u should listen and give your undivided attention to them. You might actually learn something that u didn't even know. I think it is really rude when you are trying to give a speech and someone is talking, you wouldn't want them to be talking during your speech. If you have something to say it can wait either after the speech or on break.
